It was my first time soldering so I bought a cheap soldering iron and screwed the tip up. After I realized that I should have tinned the tip properly it was too late.
As expected from the coaxial design, the tonality held up well over quite a wide listening area, with a good sense of stereo placement and a stable phantom centre image. With the initial settings, the highs were a little forward-sounding for my taste, but dropping the HF a notch or two using the rear panel EQ controls brought about a better balance, as did setting the LF 'environment' filter one notch down to allow for my placement of the speakers, which was close to a wall but away from corners. It is probably fair to describe the sound as revealing and involving, with a good sense of being able to hear depth in the mix. Imperfect mixes have nowhere to hide, which includes many CD releases of material recorded back in the '60s and '70s. Harshness and distortions show up very easily, but when the same focus is brought to bear on a good mix, the quality certainly shows through. Switching to the S6s, there was no dramatic curtailing of the lows and there was still more than enough SPL for comfortable listening. That slight trimming of the bass extension and the slightly higher crossover frequency did, if anything, bring the mid-range into even sharper focus, though as before I had to drop the HF level a couple of notches to get what felt like the right balance in my own studio.
Since this is primarily a gaming monitor, the input lag is very low at 10.5 milliseconds and the pixel response is high at 2 milliseconds, so you will not be experiencing much in the way of motion blur. By the time I went camping and got the TV out of the box and install it was a couple of weeks past the return cutoff. I couldn't get it to work in the camper. All I could get was a blue screen and a message 'No signal'. I thought maybe it was the campers antenna. I disassembled and took it home and tried it on my Dish network with the exact same results.
I just need to set aside some time to open it up and investigate. Using my old LG 17 inch flatron monitor. Man this is painful. So I was able to crack open the Sceptre monitor today. I pulled out the circuit board used for power management(not sure on the technical term of this board). I noticed some capacitors right off the bat that looked blown. What I'm a little confused about is all the white goop I saw.

But once selected in the Control Panel, the display goes black for a few seconds, comes back on for a second, then goes black for a few more seconds. It just keeps performing this cycle until I select 1920x1080 at which point it stabilizes.

I ordered it offline so by the time I received it and had it up and running, this television was being used in my home for exactly 2 years literally to date.

The original set lasted just over three months which means Walmart washes their hands off the whole deal. However, the Sceptre service people were courteous but have only one service center in City of Industry, California. So I had them send a box and packing to me, got an RMA, packed the box as required, brought it to FEDEX and sent via pre-paid shipping to CA. Within a few days they notified me that the set was damaged in transit and they were sending a brand new set which I received in Everett, MA in 7 days.
I hopped online and filed with the warranty service. They said, 'Here's a shipping label, send it to us and we will look at it.' Took about three days for FedEx to deliver to them.

Original review: Oct. 8, 2018 I bought this tv for my kids room. They had a little small tv that I used when I was in college and I figured it was time for a slight upgrade.
I tried what you recommended and, indeed, I can get the monitor to hold steady at 1920x1200 using DisplayConfigX set to 135 MHz on the pixel clock. It runs at 53 MHz refresh rate by doing so, which seems awfully low to me, but the monitor seems to tolerate it. However, I still cannot get rid of the red and green dots that appear periodically after waking the display from power saving mode. The only cure is to switch to a new supported resolution and then back to the 1920x1200. This clears the red and green dots for some reason. I saw another post about buying the same monitor and having the same problems. Unfortunately I am working overseas right now and had the monitor shipped to my UK location from Newegg.com.

I paid 699 for the Apple screen 6 months ago and love it. I had a dual set up with my old 15 studio display that is 4 years old. It was very dim and small compared to the 20, so I am happy to have another 20 instead. If you belong to Costco you should pick it up with confidence.
