We’ve seen leaks of a new Office for Mac 2015 suite circulate, but the new version of Outlook for Mac is already here, at least for Office 365 subscribers. The overhauled email client includes a. One of the biggest improvements in Outlook for Mac for Office 365 compared to Outlook for Mac 2011 is that the database has been completely replaced by SQLite.
They are contained in a SQL database. Your backup simply needs to include the database, which is contained within an Outlook 15 Profile. Here's the file path: Macintosh HD:Users:UserName:Library:Group Containers:UBF8T346G9.Office:Outlook:Outlook 15 Profiles I am pretty sure by default Time Machine backs this up.
The new version of Outlook is just an example of what you’ll receive. Nevertheless, it will have been five years since Microsoft has released a new version of Office for the Mac by the time it finally ships. Will that be too late?
Ok just installed this and it basically is just Outlook 2011 with a slightly new skin. * When you look under the hood, outside of some Exchange/Office 365 push support, it is the same client. * The preferences are limited. * No Notification Center support?
Continuing our commitment to our valued Mac customers, we are pleased to disclose the roadmap for the next version of Office for Mac—including Word for Mac, Excel for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac and OneNote for Mac. In the first half of 2015 we will release a public beta for the next version of Office for Mac, and in the second half of 2015 we will make the final release available. Office 365 commercial and consumer subscribers will get the next version at no additional cost, and we will release a perpetual license of Office for Mac in the same timeframe. We’re confident you will like what you see in the new Outlook for Mac today, and in the Office for Mac in the coming months.
We’ve seen leaks of a new Office for Mac 2015 suite circulate, but the is already here, at least for Office 365 subscribers. Microsoft also took this opportunity to make its Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote for Mac updates official, announcing public beta availability beginning early next year, with a general consumer launch in the second half of 2015. The new Office apps for Mac will be available to Office 365 subscribers with no additional cost as part of their subscription, once released, while the company also plans to launch a perpetual license for a one-off buy at the same time as Office for Mac becomes available as final shipping software. The new Outlook has a redesign that makes it look a lot more like its companion apps on other platforms, including Windows, and the web on both desktop and mobile. Using Outlook on a Mac is still mostly inconceivable to me, but then again, I rarely have to deal with a corporate email environment and unlike the bulk of large enterprises out there, we run a mostly Mac shop.
This will help reduce time spent on rebuilding the database for issues that truly are not caused by database problems, thus a database rebuild is not necessary. The Rebuild button found at the lower right of the Outlook for Mac 2011 Database Utility window is no longer available on the Outlook for Mac for Office 365 Profile Manager window. For small database issues, such as missing or corrupt data, Outlook performs a silent recovery in the background by syncing the necessary data from the server or by reconstructing the corrupt file from data in the index. When this occurs, the user is not notified and likely won’t be aware this is occurring in the background at all.
To find the newer Outlook for Mac version you have to make a special effort. And you cannot buy a boxed or separately licensed version of the newer version.

Microsoft’s continued commitment to Mac users is a good thing overall, since it means more platform choice for those who have need of Office software. The company seems even more committed to supporting customers beyond the Windows ecosystem than ever, thanks to the release of surprisingly impressive Office mobile apps for iPad earlier this year. Microsoft says the reason its Mac software is lagging behind its usual update schedule relative to the Windows release this time around is because it chose to focus on those mobile apps mentioned above first this time around.
