Hello all, Which is the one that most of you recommend for OSX? My findings are the following: 1) MSOffice is slow (starts slow) but most compatible. Not native support for Greek language spelling and thesaurus 2) OpenOffice Quick, compatible with MS (win/osx) but is still considered to be 'beta'. Also Greek fully supported.
So why the redundancy and which should you choose? Well, while LibreOffice runs on both Mac and Windows, NeoOffice is Mac only. It is a special branch or fork of OpenOffice that was developed to quash some of the bugs in the Mac version of OpenOffice. So I would say, if you're going to choose one, choose NeoOffice. In terms of features, NeoOffice (donations accepted) is huge, truly a viable alternative to Microsoft office. It includes all the basic components: Writer, the Word processing component; Calc, for spreadsheets; Impress, the presentation module; draw, for the creation of graphics and diagrams; and Base, the database component. Get LibreOffice instead - OpenOffice.org is no longer relevant. Some of their programmers broke off and formed The Document Foundation and made LibreOffice, because Oracle would have ruined OpenOffice.org with their corporate mindset. Oracle refused to donate OpenOffice for the greater good, then later they abandoned it and gave it away not to the people, but to Apache, so now it has an Apache license.
No one has ever given me any reason--let alone a good one--why my beloved CTRL-Q, CTRL-T, CTRL-M, CTRL-SHIFT-T, M etc. From MS Office have been totally omitted from OpenOffice--there are NO* equivalents in OOo/LibO. Are the developers of OOo/LibreOffice a bit barmy, or have they lost the plot? Surely, attracting experienced MSO users would be much, much easier if they didn't have to laboriously work their way around the lack of these handy and very productive shortcuts. For me, the omission of these shortcuts in OpenOffice is about as debilitating as a driver losing the 'Drive' selector position from his auto's box. If anyone knows the reason for this debacle, then let us know. BTW, in my organization--even though it's much more expensive--the sole reason why we've kept MSO is specifically because of the lack of these shortcuts in OpenOffice/LibO.

I definitely recommend this software if you don't want to lay out the money for a Microsoft product. LibreOffice is good too, maybe even a little more sophisticated. I like GoogleDocs as well, so there's really no reason to spend. I initially downloaded this app to be a format translator between Pages and Word, but it didn't exactly do what I wanted.
