Microsoft Office 2008 For Mac Mountain Lion
I have a 2010 iMac running Office 2008 with Sierra and am getting ready to buy a new iMac. An Apple s/w tech told me that Office 2008 is not compatible with HS and one option is to get a license for Office 365 for Mac. Support Communities / Mac OS & System Software / OS X Mountain Lion. I have the same problem on my iMac, except that I don't have the first file you mention in the library folder. There's no Microsoft folder in the Preference directory!! I did install Office 2008 and the problem occured after I installed SP1. I then had to install two other updates, to no avail since no MS app opens since then. I got to remove Office and install it again, not doing the update.

Office for Mac 2011 has yet to adopt a pair of OS X Lion's most-touted features -- including Versions and Auto Save -- and added support for full-screen mode only in April 2012's service pack 2 (SP2), nine months after Lion's launch.
If that doesn't work, I'd first try uninstalling Office (there's an Uninstall Office app in your Office folder) and reinstalling it, then running the updates. And if that doesn't work, then I'd call tech support.
Office 2008 may be 'only 5 years old' but it is a discontinued product & was supplanted by a newer release more than 2 years ago. Mainstream Support ended in April of this year. Extended Support is still available & Online support is virtually perpetual. IMO, it is one of the most generous in the industry. Many developers offer only paid support from day 1 & most discontinue that upon release of the next version. It should now work because it now is using OSX.8's install methods. If this doesn't help you could have a defective install disc (dirty, scratched, cracked,etc). The only way to get out of this situation is to Force Quit from the Activity Monitor. I'm almost at the point of taking my MacBook Lion and Leopard and Snow Leopard installation disks to a man 'what knows' to have Snow Leopard installed on it. Whilst out and running around today I had a brilliant idea! >> I've been using plain old.xls as extensions since I changed over from the Wonderful World of Windows years ago but thought that.xlsx might work and it did! This evening I went back to my old MacBook Pro and saved my bank account with an.xlsx extension, transferred it with a jump stick to my new Lion MacBook Pro and now it works! This is good but not all that good because now I must go back and re-save all my Excel spreadsheets as.xlsx onto a jump stick and then copy them onto the Lion MacBook, and I have hundreds of spreadsheets.
I live in France, (not by choice, but that's another matter) and as an obedient soul, on setting up Microsoft Office I put my address down in France but specified that my preferred language was English. Microsoft, the eternally helpful Microsoft, then unknown to me proceeded to format my numbers the French way, with a comma (not a dot) between the dollars and the cents on all the spreadsheets that I transferred from Snow Leopard! My account sheets have very small numbers so as to keep as many columns on the screen as possible and as I'm what most of you guys would call 'elderly' (a terrible adjective isn't it?) with slightly diminishing sight so I didn't notice that on the transferred documents the dots had been transformed into commas. On entering new data with dots I created the problem and couldn't work out why for quite some time! Now you all know about this quirk in the ever (too?) helpful Microsoft and I hope that this little story will help others! Here's something interesting I discovered.

The latest version of Office 2008 is, as of this writing, 12.2.3. You can check this in the other Office apps. If you're not updated, download the latest and greatest and see if that makes a difference.

Problems with Excel and Lion My old MacBook pro (upgraded to Snow Leopard) crashed yesterday (but I got it going again with the install CD). However decided to unpack my Lion Christmas present from last year and set it up. Yesterday was a bad day! R studio for mac download free. First the Migration Assistant wouldn't find the new MacBook Pro with Lion so I patiently copied all the data with a 8Gb jump stick from one to the other and then installed the applications I needed from the CDs I have and the Internet.
Office 2008 installs just fine on Lion I read about this too. But actually I did a clean install of Lion and installed Office 2008 from the cd and it worked just like usual. I haven't noticed any big bugs using office (mainly word and excel) yet.

Fully shutdown the Mac - Hold down the Shift Key on the Keyboard with starting the Mac - Continue to hold the Shift Key down until it comes to the Login screen - Login to the Test account again - Install the software and try to do the updates. Pages and Keynote are quite alright. Only numbers is a bit of a joke compared to Excel. I tried Office 2011 and had lots of issues with it. Office 2016 always has been very slow for me when working with large documents. The interface also doesn't play well on an 11' MacBook Air.
Downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 installer from ( link from this site ) 4. Mount and ran the installer (had to hold down CTRL to open). Voila, the installer read the key / product ID and installed. Automatically ran the updates. Be 🙂 — thank you once again.
No 2008 issues here with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Sierra on my 2012 MacBook Pro. However the iMac I use most is still at 10.11 and I run mail through Entourage 2008 on that computer. I've used Entourage as a mail client since it was new about 15 years ago.

A small box appears and says 'Preparing to copy 1,345 files,' and then I get the following error: 'The operation cant be completed because you dont have permission to access some of the items.' Now, I am the only admin on the computer and am pretty sure none of the files is locked! I made sure they were 'Read and Write.' How can I get around that?
